Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union

European Integration of Environmental Standards for Civil Aviation in the context of Sustainable Development

Project N° 621138-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE

Thus, the project aims to get in-depth understanding of the on-going environmental initiatives implemented by Europe and ICAO to make Civil Aviation more environmentally sustainable and close to the ACARE goals (Flightpath 2050). The Jean Monnet Module addresses the key aspects of EU environmental policies, practices for sustainable development and focuses on the transformation approaches of European experience into Ukrainian environmental standards in civil aviation by harmonization way.

The main objective of the project is to create an ecological outlook and culture for students and other stakeholders, for the sustainable development of the aviation based on European values and experience.

Achieving this goal is possible through the implementation of a number of measures:

Achieving this goal is possible through the implementation of a number of measures:

1
1. Upgrading the Jean Monnet module team by sharing experience during conferences, seminars, symposia, congresses, training and internships at leading European Union institutions for sustainable development and self-education;
2
2. Development of a training course "European integration of environmental standards for civil aviation in the context of sustainable development.", the structural elements of which are lectures, practical, summer schools and other types of work;
3
3. Teaching the course will allow team members to disseminate knowledge and experience among a wide range of students, to consolidate students' knowledge of sustainable development, drawing on the experience and values of European countries and to apply the knowledge acquired in the course of qualification work;
4
4. During the course teaching, project participants and students will carry out continuous self-improvement in the field of European integration and form a system of European values in relation to the environment;
5
5. Conducting research on the implementation of the concept of sustainable development in the countries of the European Union, will allow to identify the best European practices for their further implementation on the territory of Ukraine, which will allow to deepen the knowledge and broaden the view of the Jean Monnet module team and persons involved;
6
6. Publication of articles in scholarly publications and in local and regional media will contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and experience of the European community on the sustainable development of the aviation, involving the general public in discussing topical issues of environmental protection and its rational use of nature.

Project team

Oleksandr Zaporozhets

Researcher Prof. Dr. Currently a Director of the Centre of Environmental Problems of Airports of National Aviation University (CEPA NAU). Since 1978 he works as researcher and teacher at NAU. He has been involved in numerous international studies and projects related to environment protection from civil aviation impact, concentrating on the assessment of balanced approach options for the reduction of environmental problems. He is an official expert of Ukrainian Civil Aviation Administration in ecological safety of the civil aviation. In October 2009 he was nominated from Ukraine as member of CAEP of the ICAO.

Svitlana Madzhd

Researcher Prof. Dr. She is the founder and head of the scientific school of students “Ecological safety of aviation enterprises”, whose activity is aimed at formation of students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills of application of the acquired knowledge, to increase the level of ecological safety of technosphere around enterprises for the operation and repair of aviation technology.
Areas of scientific interests: ecological safety of technosphere near civil aviation enterprises, improvement of management system, improvement of ecological control of technosphere, phytotechnology.

Kateryna Synylo

Researcher Associate Prof. Dr. Currently she works as teacher researcher at Civil and Production Safety Department of NAU. She is also Expert on airport air pollution of the CEPA NAU. Kateryna Synylo defended PhD thesis on the theme of “Monitoring of aircraft engine emissions and air pollution inside the airports” in 2013. She focuses on the modelling diffusion of emissions/pollution from aircraft engine under different operational and meteorological conditions at airport level. As expert of CEPA she has been involved in numerous national and international studies and projects related to environment protection from civil aviation impact, concentrating on the assessment of local airport pollution. She participates at international environmental expert groups – of ICAO CAEP-WG2 “Airports and Operations” and Modelling and Database Group.

Larysa Cherniak

Researcher Associate Prof. Dr. She is an active participant of scientific work of our University. She is an Executive secretary of the Research and technical Board of the National Aviation University.
She has been teaching at the Department of Ecology since 2011 and from 2013 teaching at English-language education and her primary research and training interests cover the issues of sustainable transport and fuels consumption. Apart from this She has also participated in the study about climate effects of air transportation on the example of Ukrainian Airports, as well as assessment of energy saving potential of these facilities and means of their improvement.
She has necessary experience on Sustainable Development as a result of international trainings on Sustainable Development) in Higher Education of Baltic University Programme.
Currently She is working on her postdoctoral research involving the enhancement of environmental safety of airports.

Kateryna Kazhan

Researcher Associate Prof. Dr. She works as teacher at Department of Civil and Industrial Safety of NAU and as a researcher of Centre of Environmental Problems of Airport (CEPA NAU). She obtained her PhD in Technical Science in 2013. Kateryna defended PhD thesis on the theme of “Enhancement of environmental safety of airports provided aviation noise and emission”. She has been involved in numerous national studies and projects related to environment protection from civil aviation impact, concentrating on the assessment of balanced approach options for aircraft noise control, assessment of the noise and emission interdependencies and forecasting air fleet structure. Kateryna has performed studies for many airports in Ukraine evaluating the environmental impact of aviation noise, 3rd party risk and emission. She participates in international environmental expert groups of ICAO CAEP-WG2 “Airports and Operations” and Modelling and Database Group”.
